Captain Malone joined the Charleston Police Department (CPD) on April 28, 1994 and is currently the Community Policing Bureau Chief. He has served in the Patrol Division, Bike Unit, Traffic Division, Training Division, Warrants Division, Community Services Commander, Support Services Commander and Records Research and Technology Bureau Chief. He has been in charge of the Defensive Tactics Program for the CPD since 2006. He is certified in the WVSP Defensive Tactics program and Gracie Survival Tactics (2010-2018).
The techniques in the Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) program are designed to be effective for any military or law enforcement professional regardless of age, gender, size, or athletic ability (we recommend a minimum level of fitness). While most other defensive tactics programs rely on the strength, speed, and coordination of the user, all the techniques in the GST program are based entirely on leverage, timing, and efficient use of energy so that they can be successfully applied by anyone against a larger, stronger subject in the field.
