Managing Maydays

Managing Maydays

No Mayday is created equally. Because of this, it is very difficult to have a set of fast and hard rules that apply to every Mayday. Each Mayday will come with its own unique set of critical factors. The IC must use the same critical factor-based command system to manage a Mayday that is used to manage all of our other IDLH hazard zone activity (Blue Card). This presentation will cover the following details concerning Mayday management:

  •  Mayday Prevention
  • When and where firefighter Maydays are occurring around the hazard zone
  • General Mayday considerations for the IC and Division Supervisors
  • Mayday “Help Order” – The order in which an IC delivers help to a Mayday firefighter(s)
  • Blue Card Mayday management SOP overview
  • Overview and response to several types of task level Maydays

Please join us for this down to earth, tested, and data driven presentation on managing firefighter Maydays.
