Structural firefighting is dynamic, fast moving, highly hazardous and it requires the integration of lots of people, equipment, and apparatus operating within various systems and procedures. Safe and effective hazard zone operations do not happen by accident, they are the product of experience, education/curriculum, hands-on training, a sensible evaluation program, and a continuing education component to maintain a skill set for low frequency, high risk events. The Blue Card command training and certification program (Type 4 & 5 local events) not only institutionalizes and standardizes command training; it also captures firefighting experience in a way where it can be passed from one generation of firefighters to the next. This class will overview the Blue Card IC Hazard Zone Standard and the IC certification and recertification process that has been helping FD’s across the world to safely manage their operations division and hazard zone operations.
