Additive Manufacturing (3-D Printing) New Technology and the Regulatory Landscape

Instructor Kelly Nicolello

Course Description: Additive Manufacturing is gaining popularity from home hobbyists, educational exposure and industrial use to create prototype items and manufacturing items using various types of materials which have hazards associated with them. Everything from plastic toys to aircraft parts are being manufactured with this new process. The ICC and National Fire Protection Association-NFPA are both working to address these uses from both a user and Authority Having Jurisdiction perspective and we will discuss those documents. We will examine what the different types of Additive Manufacturing consist of and discuss their operation, hazards, material use, storage and fire prevention strategies. We will also address what the code enforcement community has developed and identify the information available to permit these uses.
